Intelligent Systems Podcast: Josh Rosenberg on Data Science, Bayesian Thinking, and Digital Media Literacy

In this episode of the University of Memphis Institute for Intelligent Systems’ Intelligent Systems podcast, Dr. Leah Windsor speaks with Dr. Josh Rosenberg about using data science and computing to support meaningful STEM learning. Their conversation explores the importance of beginning with worthwhile research questions, rather than technical tools alone; the role of domain knowledge in choosing methods; Bayesian reasoning and scientific uncertainty; social-media research; and ways to communicate scientific evidence with clarity and humility.

About Dr. Josh Rosenberg

Dr. Josh Rosenberg is an associate professor of STEM education and a faculty fellow with the Center for Enhancing Education in Mathematics and Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. A former public high school science teacher who primarily taught tenth-grade biology, his research is grounded in the everyday realities of teachers, students, and modern classrooms.

Rosenberg studies the use of data, computing, and digital tools in education, especially in STEM contexts. His work includes educational data science, social-media research related to science education, and efforts to help K–12 teachers and students use data to investigate meaningful questions. He is also the author of Data Science in Education Using R.
