About Us

The Institute for Intelligent Systems (IIS) is an interdisciplinary research institute founded in 1985 to serve as a source of collaboration for faculty and students studying language, learning, and artificial intelligence. Our flagship course, the Cognitive Science Seminar, runs each semester with a public lecture from 4-5pm. Our offices are on the 3rd floor of the new STEM building at The University of Memphis.

Research at Our Core

We have eight Core Faculty and more than 40 Faculty Affiliates from departments such as Physics, Psychology, Education, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Linguistics, Computer Science, and Philosophy.
